Day in the life of a ski instructor at Skischule A-Z

day in the lifeIt’s 07:30, I wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes. I take a quick shower to get my system going and then eat yoghurt with oats for breakfast. After I put on my instructor suit, I am ready to take the bus to St Anton.

Today’s morning lesson starts at 09:00, after meeting and getting to know the guests a bit, we take the lift up to the Gampen restaurant. We practise a lot at the beginner area, we do exercises and make some videos to analyse. Of course we enjoy the sun too and we have a lot of fun. Fun is after all why we are all on the slopes. Fun and Learning form the foundation of every ski lesson.

I provide my guests with some additional tips and advice on how they can practise and improve on their own. After saying goodbye, I quickly ski to the restaurant to have lunch. At 13:00 the afternoon lesson starts. This time I teach two boys, who are already intermediate skiers. We combine exploring the area with some technique training. Two hours later I hand the boys over to the parents. Happy and tired from the training they had back to their hotel.

I send Toni, my boss, a brief summary of the lessons and then my working day is finished. I have about an hour left to ski on my own, plenty of time to train and improve myself. Together with some colleagues we practise drills and we make a couple of videos to analyse in the evening.

At 16:30 it’s time to take the bus back to Pettneu. There I meet tthe other instructors in our house. We chat and relax a bit, before preparing dinner. After eating, we analyse the videos that we took earlier and we watch some expert ski videos. Besides teaching others, we are constantly focusing on improving and learning ourselves.

At around 22:00 I go to bed, excited for another day of skiing tomorrow.
